Gray Ellis worked as a juvenile court counselor before attending law school. Through that experience he was able to see how family dysfunction impacts the lives of the minor children involved. This sparked his interest in family law. After gaining some valuable experiences and reaching the designation of NC Board Certified Specialist in Family Law, he established Ellis Family Law in 2008. A primary goal was to ensure that his firm was a comfortable place for all people by accepting client differences and working with his clients where they were. While there are other firms in and around the Triangle of NC who provide representation for family law matters, working with Ellis Family Law is continually set apart. As he grew the firm, he purposefully chose attorneys to join his team for their differences as well, including their unique abilities to professionally connect with a vast array of clients and situations. He also encourages achievements and recognition amongst his team, with several having been designated as N.C. Board Certified Specialists in Family Law, and the expectation that all of his attorneys would be working toward attaining said certification. His firm has also been recognized for their high caliber of ethics (BBB A+ rating and winner of the Torch Award for Marketplace Ethics), for their high standards and reputation (Lawyer’s Weekly Power List for Family Law in North and South Carolina and Leader in the Law 2023 and 2024), for hiring some of the best attorneys in the Triangle area (Martindale Hubbell Best AV Preeminent Rating and SuperLawyer’s© designations) and for their reach to folks in and outside of the area (US News & World Report Best Lawyers). His approach prioritizes teamwork between the client and the firm, which includes timely responses and full collaboration. The attorneys listen to understand each unique situation and then works closely with the entire team, ensuring that someone is always available with knowledge of any case. Another advantage to his team approach is leveraging each attorney’s knowledge and skill to maximize outcomes. Each client begins their journey with a personal consultation with now managing partner Gray Ellis, who then assigns the matter to the best possible attorney based upon personality, skill sets, and connections. Attorney Ellis knows that tailoring advocacy through a deep knowledge of the rules of court, strong negotiation skills, and practiced emotional intelligence, produces long term favorable results. He currently has offices througout the Triangle area, and is continuing to grow and expand to other areas of North Carolina.
